During the pre-Hispanic times, the Philippines had a writing system the originated from Javanese script Old Kawi. The writing system is called Baybayin. The term Baybayin literally means spelling. If you didn’t know, most of the Baybayin characters are common syllables in our native language. Some examples are ka, ga, ta, na, da.

Words are spelled the same way they are pronounced.

Recently, a netizen in the name of Samanta Seika Vitocruz discovered Baybayin writings on the current 20 peso bill. She was so amused that she shared her discovery on social media that became viral.
